home air quality testing

Why Test Your Air

Informed Decisions Indoor Air Quality testing deals with the content of indoor air within your home and how that air could affect your health, comfort, and well being.  The air your breathe could be compromised with microbial contaminants (mold, bacteria), chemicals (carbon monoxide, radon, other gases), allergens, VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) and other stressors that can induce health effects. Are there ongoing health issues within your family? Does your family feel sluggish and symptoms appear heightened the more time they spend indoors? Has your home ever been used as a grow op? Is your mortgage lender looking for professional air quality testing? We can help answer all these questions and more. Let Informed Decisions provide you with the information that you need to restore you comfort.

What We Test For

Techniques for analyzing indoor air quality include the collection of air samples, as well as the collection of swab or wipe samples on building surfaces. The resulting samples are then analyzed for mold, bacteria, chemicals or other stressors. Airborne dust levels can also be tested to help isolate poorly maintained ducts as well as sources of contamination from other areas of the home. We can also measure temperature and humidity levels to ensure optimal comfort while at the same time minimizing contaminant growth. Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) levels are tested for safety and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) can be tested for chemical off gasses from building materials or furniture.  Radon levels can also be tested to determine possible issues in the basement.

The Facts About Air in our Homes

A growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities.  Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors.  Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors.
